Breckland is centred around the five market towns of Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford and Watton. Thetford is conveniently located on the A11 road between Norwich and London and at a junction of access roads, with King’s Lynn and Norfolk to the north and Cambridge and Ipswich to the south, each about 30 to 35 miles away. With improved rail links to Norwich, Cambridge, London and the Midlands; London Stansted and Norwich in such close proximity, Thetford is the perfect hub for commuters and residents alike.

Breckland is one of the fastest growing areas in England, the population is 128,300 and is estimated to have grown by more than 12% since 1991, compared with a national average of 2.5%. Growth is predicted to increase by at least another 4.9% with a growing number of residents moving to the District mainly from Europe which is not reflected in census data.

 

Retail, distribution, catering, farming and manufacturing are key economic activities.

 

Thetford is the industrial engine and historic gateway to the district, situated on the river Thet. There is a wealth of heritage in the town that attracts national and international visitors and it is well known for being the base of the TV series Dad’s Army.
